Project Brief:

Having tended to their driveway, patio and front lawn over the years, the owners of this red brick detached house in Wrenthorpe, Wakefield, wanted a complete refresh for the front of their property that would reduce the need for mowing and meticulous maintenance, whilst providing a cleaner overall look. In addition, several existing manhole covers sat within the driveway area and needed replacing carefully to achieve a neat, integrated finish.

Artificial Front Lawn Installation In Wrenthorpe Wakefield

The Installation Process

1. Careful Excavation & Removal

We removed the existing driveway, patio and front lawn, excavating to the agreed depths to prepare for stable foundation and ensure new levels tied in to thresholds and pavements.

2) Sub-Base Preparation & Levels

We installed and compacted the sub-base in layers to spread vehicle loads safely and set accurate falls towards appropriate run-off points to minimise standing water on the surface.

3) Block Paving: Plaspave 50 in Traditional Brindle and Charcoal Edging

We laid Plaspave 50 blocks in a traditional brindle colour to give a classic appearance and complement the brickwork of the property. The edges were then laid using charcoal coloured blocks to provide a neat, well defined finish.

4) Manhole Cover Replacements

To maintain a consistent appearance along the driveway, we replaced the existing manhole covers with ones that allow paving blocks to be embedded within the surface. We cut and laid the blocks within the covers to match the pattern of surrounding paving and seated them carefully to finished levels, providing a discrete appearance whilst maintaining accessibility.

5) New Front Step: Plaspave 50 and Plaskerb Edging

We built new entrance steps for the front and side doors using the same Plaspave blocks as the driveway and used charcoal coloured Plaskerbs to provide well defined, sturdy and slightly curved edges. Using Plaskerbs instead of Plaspave for the edges helped to create a tidy, uniform rise that matched the driveway edging for a coherent finish.

6) Jointing, Sanding & Sealing

Once the paving blocks were in place, we brushed kiln-dried sand into the block joints to secure the blocks laterally and reduce movement. This was then finished off with a sealer to stabilise the sand, support stain resistance and make routine cleaning easier.

7) Artificial Lawn Installation

We prepared the lawn base, installed appropriate layers and fitted the artificial turf, securing and trimming for a tidy edge line.

8) Finishing Touches

As a final finishing touch, our team replaced selected fence panels for a tidy boundary line and carried out a full clean-down and site tidy before handover.

Result

  • A smart, durable driveway that’s easy to maintain and ready for everyday parking.
  • Seamless manhole integrations at correct levels for a neat, trip-free finish.
  • A year-round green frontage with the artificial lawn removing the need for mowing and edging.
  • Improved access via a consistent, well-detailed entrance step.
  • A cohesive look across paving, lawn and boundaries that lifts the property’s kerb appeal.
