From Brighouse to Todmorden, the Calderdale region is abundant with hills, slopes and beautiful stone-built properties that are as much a part of the landscape as the river Calder itself. That means a new resin bound driveway, path or patio needs to do more than look good. It needs to work with the lay of the land, manage surface water properly and complement the character of your home.
Our team has been installing resin driveways, paths and patios across Halifax and Calderdale for over 15 years, including design, groundworks, drainage, edging and finishing details. From compact town driveways to long private entrances and period properties, we take care to plan the job properly before the first spade hits the ground.

Every job is different, but in Calderdale there are some considerations that come up time and again:
Work with the slope, not against it:
Many properties around Halifax and Calderdale sit on sloping ground. That can affect everything from excavation depth and finished levels to drainage, edging and access. Getting this right at the start helps avoid awkward transitions, standing water and unnecessary strain on the finished surface.
Think about where the water will go:
On hilly sites, rainwater naturally wants to run to the lowest point. If that happens to be near a doorway, garage, wall or neighbouring boundary, it needs to be dealt with properly. We assess falls, thresholds and low points as part of every survey so drainage can be planned before the any groundworks begin.
Choose materials that suit the property:
Halifax, and Calderdale as a whole, have a lot of stone-built homes, period properties and mature gardens, so colour and edging choices matter. A resin driveway can look modern and clean, but the right blend, border and detailing help it sit naturally with Yorkshire stone and traditional surroundings.
Plan access properly:
Steps, paths, garage thresholds and pedestrian routes all need to work with the driveway. Whether you need a curved path, a ramped approach, a long entrance drive or a simple parking area, the layout should suit how you use the property day to day.
It can be difficult to know what’s right for your driveway at first. However, a survey by our team will highlight any considerations that need to be made so you can make informed choices that suit your home, your budget and the way the space is used.
We provide the full package of driveway installation services, from the initial survey and preparation through to the finished surface and final details.

That means:
We see your driveway as part of your home, rather than just the land around it. The finish should look right, feel right and work properly for the way you live.

Set in private grounds with mature gardens, this detached Victorian property in Savile Park underwent major building and renovation works over the course of three years.
Because wagons, skips and other heavy vehicles needed to use the driveway throughout the build, we agreed a two-phase resin installation with the homeowners. Phase 1 covered areas away from construction traffic, while Phase 2 was completed once the main works were finished and the long driveway had settled after heavy use.
A light grey resin finish was used across the driveway, with grey stone block edging and drains installed at low points where the natural fall of the land caused water to pool.

At this period cottage in Southowram, the homeowners wanted to replace an old, tired driveway with something that was easier to maintain, drained well and suited the character of the property.
The design included a curved pedestrian path running through the driveway, with natural stone edging sourced from a local quarry. Two heritage resin blends were then used: a lighter colour for the path and a darker colour for the main driveway. This helped define the walking route while allowing the surface to blend in with the Yorkshire stone and natural surroundings.

The hills and valleys around Halifax and Calderdale are one of the most recognisable features of the area, but they can make driveway drainage more complicated.
On some properties, water runs quickly across the surface. On others, it collects in low points near doors, garages, walls or the pavement. If this is not considered at the design stage, the finished driveway may look smart, but still suffer from puddling or water sitting where it should not.
To address this, we assess falls, thresholds and low points as standard. Where needed, we can design the installation around a permeable surface, suitable drainage channels, existing gullies or other drainage features so water is managed properly from the start.
Whether you’re in Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge or even in Shelf, many homes throughout Calderdale feature traditional stone, mature gardens or period detailing. A driveway should enhance those features, not overpower them.
For some properties, a light grey resin finish with grey stone edging can create a clean, elegant look. For others, warmer heritage blends or natural stone borders may be more appropriate. The right choice depends on the colour of the building, the surrounding hard landscaping and the overall look you want to achieve.
During the survey, we can talk through colour blends, edging options and layout ideas so the finished driveway feels connected to the property.
Most homeowners don’t want delays brought on by paperwork. Fortunately, in many cases, planning permission is not needed for a new or replacement driveway if a permeable surface is used, or if run-off drains to a permeable area such as a lawn or border.
Planning permission may be needed where impermeable surfacing is used over more than 5m² and does not provide suitable run-off to a permeable area.
We’ll discuss this during the site survey and recommend an approach that suits your needs and property layout.
